Chihuly Nights

Visited the New York Botanical Garden for a sold-out Chihuly Nights exhibition. Arriving at dusk allows viewers to see the extraordinary installations come gradually to glowing life. With the exception of a large neon piece, they all illuminated from without, not within. Musicians-- an Afro-Pop combo near the cafés, a saxophonist playing the theme from Beauty and the Beast near the reflecting pool, a vibraphonist making aural the forms a glass tower with Some Day My Prince Will Come-- were positioned judiciously throughout the dark gardens. I'd seen Chihuly's 2006 show at the Botanical Garden, on the last crisp October Friday it was open, and this was the perfect coda.
